NBG 07.11.09

Tiste and I were relaxing this morning over breakfast and Andrew Zimmerman's Bizarre Foods (one of our total guilty pleasures) when he randomly popped out with... "Hey, why don't we go to the botanical garden this afternoon". I was excitable because it's one of my favorite places in Norfolk. We finished our breakfast, shuffled around the house for a bit, had our showers and headed out.

We spent about an hour and a half leisurely walking through the different gardens.

In the rose garden where we wondered what the heck hybrid tea meant and swore to look it up when we got home. Oh, I came across the John F. Kennedy rose, which was beautiful. The Julia Child rose made me think of my mother for some reason. I think years ago my dad told me her favorite colored rose was yellow(?). Overall, we enjoyed some of the multicolored ones the best but deep down Tiste has a fondness for the red roses and my favorite are the white.

We wandered and wandered, enjoying some time on the bench on the gazebo near the water and later in the Enchanted Forest. We also visited the enclosed open-air butterfly garden exhibit, which was quite fun!

More walking, spying on the eagle's nest, and taking a jaunt through the Japanese Garden (where we're considering holding the nuptials in 2012) before we stopped for a bite at the Cafe. We split a sandwich and relaxed under a tree on the patio for too long and missed the last boat ride of the day. After that it was bathrooms and time to come home for naps (after I blog, of course).

All in all, a great time! I still have 6 more passes so I think we'll go back and take the boat ride first this time. :)

Dinner 07.09.09

Don't let the big guy fool you. He can cook. I don't know why he doesn't cook more often... it might be the anxiety I have when he picks up a knife, the fact that I don't let him help me (most of the time) or that cooking is MY time! It's my decompression time after work... It's my kitchen, stay out!

Um. But, sometimes I can let it go. Kinda. I'm willing to compromise occasionally. Provided I don't have to watch him wheedling a knife and attempting to separate his finger tips from the rest of his hand...
Anyway, he decided HE wanted to cook dinner for us. I just went to the store with him... then sat on my hands and didn't watch.

His creation...

Thai Green Chile Chicken Alfredo with mushrooms over Spiral Pasta
(served with garlic bread)

The chicken was perfectly tender.

Bento 07.06.09

...Happy Belated 4th...

We went camping with the Thunder Family (SCA) this weekend in order to assist Jesse in celebrating his 30th birthday. Tiste, Lisa, Ted and I drove up on Saturday and home on Sunday. The weather was great, the company fab and the fireworks/bonfire outstanding!

I'll update this post when I get some pictures from Amanda of us throwing knives, spears and axes! :)
