Tiste Bday, 33
Last night we went out for Tiste's birthday. I know it's not until next week but it worked out better to do it last night. So, we went to dinner with friends and then out bowling. It worked out fine even though I forgot the cake and don't have his birthday present yet.
Tiste was the first one to walk up and he bowled a strike first thing. I know he was feeling cocky until 4 gutterballs later he couldn't recreate the magic. LOL
Regardless, Lisa bowled her first and second strike EVER in her life, it was amazing to witness. She promptly let us know we weren't cheering enough so we jumped up and down like a bunch of loons. Well, and we're good at that so what does it matter! Ha!
I think I bowled a 53 or something really sad. Thanks to everyone that came out; Tiste had a good time. :)

JSF, Too Cute
JSF is Kenneth's youngest son. And, this little one was so cute; I can't get him out of my head.
Farm Visit
Tiste and I were able to get to the farm this weekend and see Dad for his birthday and spend quality time with the 'Rents. Was pretty great getting to unload a kiln and spend some time with the folks. Tiste used the weekend to catch-up on relaxing. He's been pretty stressed lately so he decided he would read, watch TV and check his email. Which was great since I wanted to spend time with the 'rents and do things around the Farm. Missions accomplished.
Was also able to see Kenneth! We figured it out, we hadn't seen each other since 1998!
While we were there I also bought this awesome lamp!
Go ahead and drool! It's mine, not yours!

Lunch 03.18.09
As I mentioned, we've been doing Early Childhood Training at ODU. This has included YAV providing lunches for the last three days. Here's my lunch from today and lunches previously this week have been similar in nature...
I will say this though - the brownies aren't that good and a total waste of time.

Reading Matters 03.14.09
This is YAV's 3rd year of hosting an event we call 'Reading Matters'. Reading Matters is a fundraiser where we invite children and parents to attend an event that includes a performance by a YAV artist, listen to children authors present their work and hold a book sale and book signing. Not to mention a silent auction for the adults!
We have kid friendly foods like meatballs, small sandwiches and an ice-cream bar! It's a lot of fun and we usually get 200 people in attendance.

Creative Beginnings
We've been doing Early Childhood Training here at YAV and ODU... It's been interesting hearing about formats for dance, music, storytelling and visual arts that teach kids valuable motor skills and more... 3-5 days residencies that also incorporate hands-on training for teachers.
We're looking over YA New Jersey's successful evaluation tools as well as classroom time with teachers to make them successful at presenting arts in the classroom. All very interesting stuff. I feel a little left out knowing that I'll just be scheduling it and not necessarily developing it for our chapter. My skills are better served working with our clients in having the initial conversation and helping them apply for grant funding to get the work into the classroom. Sad, but true.
Watching the artists work with such brilliant children doing fun activities that really lead to their development is awesome though. I have to say, I do feel like I'm missing out in not being able to interact with the children. However, that being said, I don't necessarily feel qualified to do it either.
Watching this though, I had memories of being with my mom somewhere (was it Montgomery Tech?) and doing activities that seemed similar in nature. My mom was, and is, always good at looking into the development of a child through 'playtime'. She would be a perfect artist to do this kind of work in the classroom!

Lunch 03.11.09
I can't believe my Aunt Les would think that because I didn't post my blogs I wasn't eating lunches! Gosh, she totally knows me better than that!! ;p
Had another great lunch today at Saigon #1 with Ted. I'm getting noticed by the staff now; this is BAD! However, we had a great lunch and even left late to get back to our respective offices. It is such a nice day we totally should have played hooky and gone to the park! Oh, well.

The 'Rents were in town so I talked them into picking me up for lunches at Saigon #1! It was great to see them! Mom made me sit at my desk in my office and take pictures. I'm sure she'll be posting them later! *L* :)

I know you have better things to do with your life than to see what I eat for lunch every day. I *know* this... believe me.
However, I had a teacher once who told me to write "I have nothing to say" in my journal until I found that I had SOMETHING to say. So, instead of days, weeks and months of nothing to say this is my daily (or, rather, almost daily) blog that keeps me posting. And, eventually, I might find I have something more exciting to say.
So there.
Healthy Choice's Lemon Pepper Fish, broccoli florets, rice pilaf and an apple caramel dessert.

Lunch 03.03.09
My friends and I have taken to meeting for lunches here and there. Today was another great lunch but this time at Saigon #1 that's right around the corner. Not just Lisa and I; this time we had Amanda, Jesse and Ted with us as well.
We had a good chat about Amanda and Jesse leaving us for the wild world of Northern Virginia. Lisa and I have had fun living vicariously through them looking at apartments and places to live. Thankfully, they won't be too far away! Can you say ROAD TRIP! :)
I've already warned Amanda to have my room ready!
Jesse is going to look at apartments while all us girls are in DC this weekend. (It turns out they'll be packing it up and moving around April 1st - so not only will we be celebrating Magen's birthday but we'll have a good hurrah with Amanda as a 'send off'.) So, us girls joked that Ted should go with Jesse this weekend and look at the apartments with him. The boys decided that that would be too much like 'girl time'. *L* We promptly launched into skits of the boys being excited over crown molding and luxurious bathrooms. And, decided that Ted would have to have a snit fit over nowhere to keep his Hummel figurines.
The girls and I are SUPER excited about our trip! I'm planning on taking lots of photos and going with the flow! ;p

Soup's On
For a cold day; I was contemplating soup. I had to improvise!
Anna's Made Up Soup
2 cups Chicken broth
2 dashes of lemon
1 hot Italian sausage - out of casing
1 cup mushrooms
1/4 cup(ish) Sake
1 Tablespoon butter
1/4 cup left over pasta w/ onions, toms and mushrooms
Cook sausage, remove from pan w/ slotted spoon. Add sake and deglaze pan. Add butter and mushrooms - cook for a few minutes. Add chick broth, lemon, onion powder, garlic powder and oregano. Bring to a boil and reduce to not quite half.
Add leftover pasta and cooked sausage and simmer for a few minutes.
Put in bowl.
Top with cheese and realize later it would have been better without it.
Eat.
Pine for crusty bread.
Eat more.
Be full.
Yum.

Stupid Silly Snow!
It was stupid cold this morning. So cold, in fact, that Tiste went to open the driver side door and the handle popped off.
This was after opening other doors on the car without a problem so he was a little shocked into silence when it happened. He came directly into the house to let me know where I proceeded to talk myself down off of the ceiling. Prospectively, the car's over 100,000 miles so if this is the worst thing... *deep breaths* I'm trying to deal.
